Family Counselling

What is Family Counselling?

Family therapy aims to strengthen and enhance the lives of families through collaboration. We will work to improve the conditions that affect your family as a unit and as individuals. Family therapy can be beneficial for two or more family members who want to connect, understand, work through issues.

There are many reasons your family may consider family therapy. Some may wish to improve and maintain current relationships, while others may have a stressful event trigger a need for treatment. These may include a divorce, a death in the family, substance abuse issues, or anger issues. Whatever your reason for considering treatment, know that I will work with your family to strengthen relationships and help members build understanding using Internal Family Systems (IFS) and a strength-based approach.

In family therapy, the therapist observes interactions between family members. I will attempt to see the perception of non-interacting family members. If a conflict arises in the session, I will work with each family member to understand.

A core benefit of family counselling is that it often teaches family members new and more positive ways to communicate. Bt replacing old, negative communication patterns, families can find new perspectives and solutions to their issues.

Your first session involves an initial assessment of your well being and a thorough intake of your personal history and background. Subsequent therapy sessions are 60 minutes in length and are unique to each treatment plan.
